Password Protect Directories
From HelpBase
Use the cPanel Password Protect Directories module to restrict access to a certain part of your site. For example, if you have pages that you only want to share with friends or family, you can put those pages in a folder, protect the folder using this module, and give the username and password to authorized visitors.Note that the term "directory" is synonymous with "folder" in this context.
Using the Password Protect Directories module
- If the folder does not exist, create the folder using the cPanel File Manager module.
- Click the Password Protect Directories link in cPanel.
- Navigate by clicking on the folder icons, then click on the name of the folder you want to protect.
- Check the Password protect this directory checkbox (uncheck it if you do not wish to protect this folder anymore).
- Enter a descriptive name in the Name the protected directory textbox.
- Click the [Save] button.
- To create an authorized user, enter a Username and Password and click the [Add/modify authorized user] button. You can add as many different users as you need. Multiple people can use the same username and password, so only one username and password is strictly necessary.
You have to type the password twice. You will not see any of the characters in the password when you type them; each typed character will appear as an asterisk ("*"). As you type the password, a password strength meter will assess the strength of the password.
Please see the password recommendations on the help page for the Change Password cPanel module.
